In many features the genus Kotschyella F.K. Mey. taxonomically seems to stand nearby the genus Noccaea MOENCH. But with its nearly lineal and more convex siliculae, which carry at their apex on both sides of the style triangular horns ending apically, this genus shows fruits which in this form never occur in Noccaea. Of the two species of this genus known till to-day Kotschyella cilicica (SCHOTT et Kotschy ex BoiSS.) F.K. Mey. is growing on the Cilician Taurus in SouthAnatolia, and K. stenocarpa (BOISS.) F.K. Mey. on the mountains surrounding the southernmost part of the Caspian Sea. K. cilicica has longer styles and bigger seeds than K. stenocarpa. The separation of this genus from the Thlaspi-aggregate by my morphologic-anatomical investigations (Meyer 1973, 1979, 1991) has been confirmed by molecular-biological investigations with ITS nrDNA sequence data undertaken by KOCH & Mummenhoff 2001. They found Kotschyella and Noccidium F.K. Mey. nearer to Thlaspi L. s. str. than to all the other genera investigated, which had been combined under the genus Thlaspi L. formerly.
