Mastodia tesselata, Usnea aurantiaco-atra and Ramalina terebrata produce and secrete urease in response to exogenously supplied urea. In some cases, enzyme secretion seems to be an inverse function of endogenous urease contents of the thalli. On the other hand, no clear relation was found between the water content of the lichen thalli and the secretion of urease.
