In eher essayistischer Form werden die geschichtlichen, technischen, örtlichen und anthropologischen Rahmenbedingungen für den Neubau der Zentralbibliothek der Humboldt-Universität skizziert. Dabei wird das Jacob-und-Wilhelm-Grimm-Zentrum architektonisch und konzeptionell beschrieben und erläutert. Als Fazit ergibt sich die Überzeugung, dass die Gestaltung der Bibliothek das Fundament für ihre sinnliche und geistige Wirkung ist. In this essay the author outlines the historical,technical, local and anthropological framework for the newly built central library of the Humboldt University in Berlin. At the same time, the article describes and elucidates the architectural and conceptual aspects of the Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Center. In conclusion, it is made convincingly clear that the design of this library serves as the groundwork for its sensory and intellectual impact.
