<B>Molecular Dynamics Calculations on a two-dimensional Ensemble of Double-cylinders - a model of the Lamellar Phase of Phospholipids</B>
The Molecular Dynamics procedure was used to study the structural and transport properties of a two-dimensional ensemble of double-cylinders/double-disks. This system is a model of the lamellar phase of phospholipids in water and of the biomembrane lipid component. The herringbone structure was obtained as the most stable arrangement of double-disks forming pseudohexagonal lattices of the center-of-mass points as well as of the disks. With a number density of 0.452 nm-2 the lateral pressure of the model system at a temperature of 310 K was calculated to be (40-60) dyn · cm-1 in agreement with experimental data of (30-45) dyn · cm-1. The lateral self-diffusion constant of the model system was calculated to be one order of magnitude higher than experimental values, the double-disks rotation correlation time reproduces experimental values.
