In Blattella germanica one can see the interaction between bacteriocytes and both gonads during embryonic development and in the early moments of the nymphal stage of the insect. In embryos of both sexes, the bacteriocytes from the fat bodies are in close contact with the testis or the ovary. The bacteriocytes continue to adhere to the testis until the first days of the nymphal stage. In the embryonic testis and around it one can find cells that look like female progametes. The relationship of bacteriocytes to the rudimentary ovary in the male is similar to that between bacteriocytes and the normal ovary of the female.
