Cryptomonads (unicellular biflagellates) are supposed to contain eukaryotic endosymbionts, the plastids of which have been conserved together with a small remnant of a nucleus termed nucleomorph. A preliminary account is given of isolation and characterisation of the different genomes of two cryptomonads, and of RNA and histone localisation at the ultrastructural level.
