Mit dem Nachweis von rund 200.000 von mindestens 265.000 zu erwartenden Titeln ist das von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderte Unternehmen »Verzeichnis der im deutschen Sprachraum erschienenen Drucke des 17. Jahrhunderts« das wichtigste nationalbibliographische Katalogisierungsunternehmen für das 17. Jahrhundert. Mit dem jetzt erreichten Stand ist es an der Zeit, das Projekt als Ganzes noch einmal in den Blick zu nehmen, um die bisherige Entwicklung, die Erfassungsgrundsätze, erste statistische Ergebnisse und Forschungsperspektiven darzustellen.

With catalog records for approximately 200,000 of the anticipated 265,000 or more titles, the »Bibliography of Books Printed in German-Speaking Countries from 1601 to 1700 (VD17)« - a project supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - is the most important national bibliographic project dealing with the 17th century. This is an appropriate time to evaluate the project as such in order to present the developments up to now and the options for data retrieval, new statistical findings as well as perspectives for future research.
