Responses of NDH to heat-stressed condition, hyperosmotic stressed condition and CO2 limitation condition were compared between wild type (WT) and several Ndh subunit disruptants of tobacco plants and cyanobacterium Synechoycstis PCC6803. Ndh disruptants were sensitive to these conditions as judged by slower growth, earlier wilting, accompanying with evident decrease in photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm) and in net photosynthetic rate. On the other hand, wild type showed evidently enhancement of post-illumination in Chl fluorescence, indicating that NDH-mediated cyclic electron flow around PSI was stimulated. The expression of NdhK during heat treatment and some NDH subunits in low CO2 indicate that NDH is essential for adaptation of plants to these stresses.
