The mycorrhiza-like endophytic fungus Piriformospora indica is a member of the Sebacinales and the fungus has a wide-host range. Arabidopsis is one host and P. indica stimulates plant growth and seed production. In addition, colonized plants are more protected against biotic and abiotic stress. The growth promotion is already visible 6 days after inoculation. For a better understanding of this interaction it is necessary to perform long-term interaction studies. A simple long-term experiment with P. indica and Arabidopsis on expanded clay is introduced which allows to study the beneficial plant/fungus interaction and the harvest of intact roots.
