Inhaltliche Beschreibung
Zusammenfsg.Based on the universal properties of present-day ribonucleic acids it is hypothesized that RNA was the first macromolecular structure in the evolution of life. RNA is a carrier of information, it is able to interact in a specific way with itself or other nucleic acids and will connect functional domains as an adapter. It also can act as a true catalyst in polymerization and processing reactions. Some of these capabilities are postulated to be accompanied by extensive intramolecular rearrangements. The characteristics of this latter (dynamic) property of RNA is emphasized because it might have played an important role in the early stages of molecular evolution.
