Two different adenylyl cyclases have been described in the lichen Evernia prunastri. The fungal enzyme behaves as a regulatory subunit of a multienzyme complex devoted to the phosphorylating transfer of glucose whereas algal cyclase produces cyclic AMP as a second messenger for phytochrome action.
