The Deutsches Museum in Munich, one of the best-known and favorite museums in Germany celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Incorporated into the museum planning from the very beginning, the library was originally intended to serve as Germany's central library for technology, mahematics and natural sciences. Target of its collection policy were to be the comprehensive acquisition of current and classical literature in these subject branches. Thanks to this acquisition plan and the good fortune of surviving the Second World War without any losses the library now has a substantial collection of sources. With an overall collection of 875,000 volumes, it is Germany?s largest library collection and is today primarily a research library for the history of science and technology. But it continues to provide access to scientific and technological literature to the general public.
